The South African under-23 national team captain Keagan Dolly says that impressing at the Rio Olympics in Brazil will boost many players’ chances of signing for big European teams in the near future. The team reached the Olympics for the first time in 15 years, when they finished third in the eight nations tournament held in Senegal late last year. Many European scouts will be present to search for new talent at the quadrennial tournament which will take place in August. SA’s top stars such as Benni McCarthy, Aaron Mokoena and Matthew Booth played in the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Australia, and they subsequently moved on to bigger things in Europe later on. Dolly is hoping half of the current crop will impress the scouts as well.
