South African national soccer women’s captain Janine Van Wyk says there is no excuse for not performing well in the upcoming Namibia African Women’s Championship especially with the avalanche of friendlies they have played since the arrival of Vera Pauw in March. Even though South Africa does not have a women’s professional league running, there has been action aplenty for the national team. In the last four months Banyana Banyana has played eight friendlies including one African Women’s Championship qualifier against Comoros…

And, Banyana have not only been winning games but their striking prowess has been impressive. Last Saturday they hammered Botswana 10-0 and before that they beat Zambia and Namibia 4-0 and 2-0 respectively.
