South African football will get an opportunity next year to place itself amongst the top countries again in continental football with four teams set to represent the country in the CAF club competitions. This is thanks to the exploits of Orlando Pirates whose runners-up spot in the 2013 African Champions League ensured the return of the extra two spots in CAF club competitions. To reserve these spots, teams at least have to reach the group stages but Bucs chairman Irvin Khoza says playing in the two competitions can come at a heavy price too…

For next year, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs qualify for the Champions League and Pirates and Bidvest Wits for the Confeds Cup.
