Sick of the follow/unfollow game on Instagram? It can be frustrating trying to build your tribe in numbers while people follow you with the sole purpose of using you as bait to get a follow back. It is so hard when you see that person just unfollow you a few minutes later! Here are three things to keep in mind about the follow/unfollow game so you don’t get discouraged: 1. Do not be offended. For most people that do this, it is purely business. They have been taught that the best way to get followers is to like, comment, and follow on a whole bunch of people at once just to unfollow. They may have numbers in the thousands, but the next time that happens to you it may be helpful to study their page. How many of their followers are actually engaged? Some of these people that have 103k followers and 1k likes on each post may be part of threads where they get hundreds of likes without anyone actually following them or reading their posts. 2. Sometimes there is a person that will unfollow you just a few minutes later they followed you, but sometimes I see people upset that they got unfollowed when they didn’t even know who the person was and it was days later! Really question if you were engaging with that person when they unfollowed you.As much as we all love to see big numbers, it is the engagement that is going to make you money. Compare how many followers you have to how many people are liking your posts organically. If we focus more on how to engage the audience we already have, when it is time to sell a product, we will know our audience better and know how to appeal to them. Having 10k followers is nothing if only 10 people buy a product. Let’s all take some time today and really get to know our tribe, no matter how big or small.
