In the summer of 2018, I traveled to the home of the civil rights movement to challenge my thinking and learn from local activists on how to be a better mobilizer and enforcer of change. Racism is alive and breathing, plaguing this country in every system and every institution. We, the youth, are the creators of culture and can energize antiracist movements to enact real and tangible change. Listen to how my experience was in the American South and some of the key lessons I took away that reshaped and revolutionized my lens. I have always been labeled a disruptor, someone who rocks the boat, it’s the only way to get shit done. ACT UP.
