Malawi's newly elected president Lazarus Chakwera has taken the oath of office, promising a new dawn to all Malawians and telling an ecstatic sea of flag-waving supporters that taking the highest office was an honour. Chakwera , head of the Malawi Congress Party -MCP, and a coalition of political parties united under the Tonse Alliance, has vowed to be president for all Malawians, including those who did not vote for him. 65 year -old Chakwera won the election with 58% of the vote against Peter Mutharika's 38%.
