Cryptocurrency mining is big in Texas. There are lots of computers using enough electricity to power about 6,500 homes as they raced to earn Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency. Estimates say they account for 5% of the electricity on the power grid. Energy expert Ed Hirs talked to KRLDs Austin York about how crypto mining works, and the problems this can present to the power grid.
