The Springbok Sevens team have won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and an Olympic bronze medal, they've won a World Series as well as tournaments all over the world, but one prize that has eluded them thus far is the Hong Kong Sevens title. They finished runners up in 2008 and 2009, but weren't able to progress to the Cup Semi-finals in their last two outings to the Pearl of the Orient. Neil Powell's men however have had a dream season, winning four out of six tournaments and finishing second in the other two and the coach says they will treat Hong Kong like any other tournament. The Blitzboks have been struggling with a number of injuries this season, but the coaching staff breathed a sigh of relief with the news that Branco du Preez, Cecil Afrika, Chris Dry and Ruhan Nel all overcame their injuries to be ready for the tournament which gets underway on Friday. The team departed for Hong Kong from Cape Town International Airport via Johannesburg on Sunday. Powell was also able to welcome Tim Agaba back from injury, while Selvyn Davids will make his debut in Hong Kong. The Blitzboks find themselves in a tough Pool B alongside Canada, France and Kenya. First up on Friday night they will take on France, before their final two pool matches on the Saturday and then the knockout games on Sunday. The Blitzboks also have Ryan Oosthuizen in the squad as their reserve player and captain Philip Snyman says the new players always brings some energy to the team.
