Cheetahs captain and Springbok centre Francois Venter says his team will need to work extremely hard and remain humble if they are to enjoy some success in the upcoming Super Rugby season. After being crowned Currie Cup champions at the end of last year and doing so unbeaten, Venter believes that one of their strengths as a side is that they have managed to keep the same squad. Venter said that not much must be read from their preseason friendly loss against the Sharks and they are a team that is still learning and testing combinations before the start of the season. Venter says every team member contributed in ensuring that the team do well last season and is hopeful that they will continue doing the same this year with the team always being put ahead of the individual. Last week, Venter was honoured with the Cheetahs Player of the Year Award after leading the side to domestic glory. He also made his Springbok debut during the end-of-year tour last year after having featured for the SA “A” side in their two match series against the England Saxons. Venter dedicated his award to his teammates.
