The Blitzboks were hard at work on the training field next to the Deodoro Stadium on Thursday morning as they continue to fine tune their preparations for their opening match of the Olympic Games. The temporary stadium, which will host all the men’s and women’s rugby as well as the equestrian and sections of the modern pentathlon, is a stunning venue and the field is in tip top shape. 2015 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Werner Kok says the team has been working hard in Rio and that they will be ready for their first game on Tuesday the 9th of August. As a sevens player Kok has travelled all over the world and played in a number of major tournaments. But he says being part of Team SA at the Olympic Games is on a different level. The Sevens team as well as the rest of Team SA will take part in the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on Friday night in the Maracana Stadium. Around 78 000 spectators are expected to witness live what is expected to be the sexiest opening ceremony in the Games history. Kok, who experienced the opening ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in London says he expects it to be an unforgettable night.
