Springbok coach Heyeneke Meyer is yet to settle on a flyhalf for the team going into the June inbound series against the World XV, Wales and Scotland. While Stade Francais flyhalf Morne Steyn is still frontrunner to retain the number 10 jersey, Meyer revealed during their training camp in Durban that the likes of Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen and SA Under-20 captain Handre Pollard also have a good chance at getting a fighting for a place in the flyhalf berth…..

Meyer conceded that as much as most of his focus is on the Springboks first game of the year against the World XV next week in Cape Town, he is also thinking about the long term sustainability of the team and the personnel who will be involved…….

Meyer admitted that he is concerned at the lack of number five locks in the country and that the decision by Victor Matfield to come out of retirement has been a blessing in disguise for the Springboks. Meyer said that Matfield’s influence has been evident during the training camp……

Most of Meyer’s squad for the inbound series will be made up of South African-based players but Meyer did admit that the overseas-based players add a lot of experience to the national team and that he will be looking at picking the best team available to him this year……Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
