Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer says his team will need to move on from their disappointing 29-15 defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their Castle Lager Rugby Championship encounter at Eden Park in Auckland. With still two home matches remaining against Australia and New Zealand, Meyer is hopeful that his team can turn matters around…… Meyer admitted that his team was outplayed at parts by the All Blacks and was willing to offer no excuses for the defeat…… While French referee Romain Poite has come under heavy criticism for the two yellow cards and subsequent red card to Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis for a dangerous tackle on Dan Carter and for allegedly elbowing Liam Messam, Meyer conceded that playing with 14 men for 50 minutes hindered their performance. However, Meyer insisted that they did not blame the referee and that his team will take the decisions on the chin……. Meyer believes that his team did well to contain the scoreline to below 50 points seeing that they played most of the game one man short especially against the world champion All Blacks at their spiritual home at Eden Park and at the same time believes valuable lessons were learnt by his team that should stand them in good stead for their remaining two matches at home……. Springbok captain Jean de Villiers says that the players are to blame for the loss and that Du Plessis’ red card took away from making the game a spectacle. De Villiers admitted that they let the country down but is hopeful that they can rectify matters when they return home even though the loss proved that there is still distance between themselves and the All Blacks……Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
