East London-based boxing trainer Loyiso Mtya has remembered the contribution of the late Les Muller, who was regarded as the father of professional boxing in the Eastern Cape’s Border region. Mtya, who trains current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Bantamweight Champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete, said that Muller came to boxing at the right time after he was introduced to the sport by social workers. Mtya was speaking at a poorly-attended memorial lecture in honor of Muller, who was the chairman of the then Border Boxing Control Commission. The memorial lecture was held at the NU6 Boxing Gym in Mdantsane.
