Olympic and World champion Wayde van Niekerk had a great season according to his 75-year old coach Anna Botha. The 25-year old did his personal best in the 200m clocking 19.84 seconds. He also broke the world record in the 300m event when he posted 30.81 seconds. Van Niekerk capped a great season when he won gold medal in the 400m at the IAAF world athletics championships in London, and also silver in the 200m. Van Niekerk has been one of the most prominent sprinters in the world in recent times. He won the 40m event at the Rio Olympics in Brazil last year, and also smashed the world record set by the American legend Michael Johnson in 1999. Last year he also became the first, and to date, the first sprinter in history to have run 100m in 10 seconds, 200m in under 20 seconds, and 400m in under 40 seconds. Botha says he is a special athlete.
