International crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court or ICC cannot be addressed through a passive posture or through the acceptance of continued non-co-operation of States. That was message from Prosecutor Karim Khan in his latest report to the Security Council on his office's investigations and prosecutions in relation to Council resolution 1593. This referred the situation in Darfur, Sudan to the ICC as far back as 2005. In a briefing to the Council from Chad where he had been visiting refugees who have fled the current conflict in Sudan, Khan warned that we are fast approaching a breaking point as he urged the Council to give the situation the attention it needs now more than ever.
