During an address at the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU)'s elective conference, the minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga announced that the department is looking into introducing a General Education Certificate (GCE). Motshekga says the planned introduction of the GCE forms part of the initiative to deal with the quality and efficiency through the implementation of standardized assessments.
