Do we really want leaders whose sole motive is making money, at almost any cost, including destroying our planet? Andrew Leigh, author of Ethical Leadership: Creating and sustaining an ethical business culture, discusses the steady advances towards more ethical and responsible leadership. A decade of corporate scandals, mis-selling and other bad corporate behavior has created a serious lack of trust in both companies and their leaders. Andrew believes a new form of leadership is inevitable, and already on its way, as forward looking companies wake up to the reality that unethical companies do worse financially than responsible ones; that young people increasingly refuse to work for companies with a poor ethics track record and the rest vote with their feet. The task of the new leadership is to create “Ethical Engagement” in which all stakeholders commit to helping the organisation do the right thing.
