Teachers are leaving schools to pursue other interests in droves. In Mecklenburg County, North Carolina over 850 teachers resigned their positions during the last school year. The same is true of principals. In fact, over 50 principals have resigned in Mecklenburg County since August 2021.
And superintendents? Once again, using Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as an example, the district has hired and fired 5 superintendents in the last 10 years. Five in ten years!! That is a lot of listening tours and strategic plans that never get implemented.
And it’s not just here- across the United States, educators and leaving the profession to pursue other interests. Who will educate our children? As I have said on this program many times, we are not here to air grievances, or wallow in what is wrong with our schools, rather, we are here explore what’s possible. Join us as a teacher, former principal, and former superintendent help us understand what it will take to recruit and retain the best educators. Our kids deserve nothing less.
