Two steps forward, one step back and all that.
Join me for a chatty episode discussing how I've been feeling lately, mainly the frustrations around job hunting! Might be a relatable one if you are also in the same boat or just generally are feeling like not much progress is being made towards your goals despite your best efforts. I promise growth is happening even if it feels invisible!!

Because life is short and just one big experiment.
Hiya!! Welcome back to a brand new episode of the pod - thank you very much for tuning in.
Spring is the ideal time to start taking action on those projects or lifestyles that weâve been thinking about, planning and dreaming up.
But how can we make it easier for ourselves to actually take action on them?
In this episode Iâm chatting you through 5 different things to implement to help us take action on the things that are important to us.
Hope you enjoy the episode and take something away. Share with your friends if you did. Lucy xx

Are you giving yourself enough opportunities to succeed?
This week weâre chatting all things people pleasing and prioritising - all of those lovely ways we get in our own way and self-sabotage from doing the things that are really important to us.
What is it that youâre working on at the moment that youâre not giving enough time to?
What are you deprioritising at the first opportunity?
How can you give yourself more chances to succeed?
Hope you enjoy the ep and Iâll be back for another next Monday! xx
P.S. sorry this upload is late - I'm on holiday with very very slow wifi strength which means it's been uploading all day!!
But what does that actually mean? How do we trust the process? Do I follow a plan? Do I wait for things to happen to me?
Let's chat fearlessness and trusting the bigger picture. Spring is the time to put into place all those things we've dreamed about, to take action on our goals. What do you most want to do, see, or be in the next few months?
And how can trusting the process help?

Let's kick off the spring season with a chat about how the idea of needing to deserve growth is crazy! It's not selfish to work on things that feel meaningful to you, in fact usually the opposite is true because you never know who you're going to inspire through the ripple effect of your actions.
Spring is the perfect time of year to make changes in your life and start to take action!! What changes do you want to see in this next season?

How often do you think "I should be better at this," or "I shouldn't feel this way?"
This week we're addressing those pesky "shoulds" that get in the way of us knowing what we really want and how we genuinely feel. Listening to our gut feelings is praised, but it's actually kinda hard when we've internalised all these societal expectations and pressures!
With 3 strategies to undo these faulty thinking patterns known as cognitive distortions we might be better equipped to tune in to our gut feelings and go after what we want.

So excited to bring you this week's episode!! It's our first guest episode of the winter season - Lucy Talks with Zara Beth!
Zara is such an inspiration - and a woman of many talents! From her 400k+ subscribers on YouTube, to her online art business and soon-to-be-published book, Zara's various outlets for her advocacy work and creativity are all amazing. But it's her resilience, creativity and kindness that I find even more amazing and hope you soak up in this episode.
Zara has several neurological disabilities including Tourette's Syndrome, FND and autism which impact her life in different ways. I hope that this episode sheds some light on the reality of living with disabilities and in particular, can help to rewrite the stereotype of autistic people.
Being able to recognise and ask for your individual needs to be met is so important - we chat about accepting your capabilities, the freedom that can come from diagnoses and how to put systems in place to support yourself.
Thank you so so much for coming on the podcast Zara!!

(We were on a break!!)
So about a year ago now I deleted Instagram and not gunna lie, it's made a massive difference to my life! I feel like I've changed my perspectives a lot in that time and have seen the value in questioning my actions.
In this episode we're diving into why I decided to stop posting, scrolling and giving my energy to social media as well as discussing how intentionality about your relationships with things & people in your life can make you feel happier and more fulfilled.
From identity to doom scrolling and from digital passifiers to living for others' approval, let's chat about my motivations for deleting instagram and taking control of my free time.
Would love to hear your thoughts!! Ironic I know but it's @lucytalks_ on instagram if you wanna get in touch - or email me lucytalkspod@gmail.com to chat or for enquiries!

I really do believe that your happiness matters. For yourself, for people around you and also, for enacting solutions to huge social justice issues like climate change. I'm pretty passionate about this one and can't wait for you all to hear this episode.
Along with a new seasonal structure for the podcast I wanted to bring in a clearer theme - this episode is a mission statement of sorts. Your happiness matters. I think the climate movement (and all social change) needs empowered, solutions-focused, fulfilled changemakers. And we won't find them through negative self talk and under-confidence. Let's prioritise our dreams and our happiness and see what can happen.

I have a theory that we're letting our brains self sabotage our potential before we've even begun. How often do you have a great idea, only for your brain to shut it down and come up with excuses (or really good reasons why we should start next year... and definitely not today).
In episode 2 of our winter season, we're talking about dreaming bigger. Letting go of the 'how' and imagining the 'what'. Let's see what we can imagine for ourselves without any restrictions.

Lucy Talks is back!! I'm so excited to have you listening - welcome if you're new and hi again if you're back for more weekly eps! đ±đđđđœ
I'm very much in a new chapter since graduating from uni and coming back to the UK from my travels - so naturally I've been thinking about the changes I want to make happen in my life, and for the podcast. I want to create something that feels really intentional, thought out and purposeful - with less scrambling around for ideas to put up an episode each week! I'm really happy with the ideas I've come up with and can't wait to start sharing them with you now.
In this episode, I chat you through my new idea for restructuring the podcast, my fears around making a change in my life and my thoughts on living in tune with the natural ebbs and flows of life. I'm super excited about it all and would love to hear your thoughts.

Is creativity what makes us human?
With the rapid rise of AI, a sharp decline in creative subjects being studied in UK schools and a growing imbalance in our wellbeing there comes a real need for a resurgence in creativity and innovation. In this episode, I have a proper deep dive into various areas where creativity is being pushed aside and the consequences this is having on our wellbeing, society and planet.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this one! A slightly different more in-depth style episode so I'd love to know what you think.

Turns out social media is proper crazy when you stop and think about it.
Hey everyone! So excited to share this episode with you all, it's one that I've been wanting to make for a while. This is ep2 of the 'life is an experiment series' - and it's been SUCH an interesting experiment.
Honestly I feel like we've really normalised sharing our lives online, interacting with other people's content or using social media as a distraction or a way to avoid discomfort. Taking a step back from it I'm starting to realise how much of a knock-on effect that it has on our real-life relationships. Yes there are loads of benefits, but does the internet have a net positive effect on our connection?
Huge shoutout to Megan Short's episode 'we are all third wheeling social media' which inspired me to do this - definitely go listen.
Another really interesting take on the internet is linked here - an interview from 1999 with David Bowie when he predicts the effect of the internet on our society.
If you do your own social media detox I'd love to hear about your experiences, email me spacetolearnpodcast@gmail.com if you want an accountability buddy or to chat more about this.
Thank you so much for listening!!! Very grateful for you being here.

Long time no speak! The last few weeks I feel like I've been pretty low on inspiration - for creative projects, uni work & doing things I love. It's a weird form of self-sabotage but I think sometimes we're our own worst enemies and the only way to kick the low motivation is to choose to change it.
In this episode I chat you through three things that've been helping me lately, and then discuss happiness more broadly.
Does success lead to happiness? Or does happiness lead to success? How can we solve for happy?

âThereâs no such thing as the wrong body to dance.â
This week on the pod, Iâm talking with Dr Peter Lovatt, a dancer, dance psychologist and the author of âThe Dance Cureâ. I recently read Peterâs book and loved it, so thought itâd be fun to chat with him and share all his wisdom about finding confidence, self esteem and connection through dance.
Honestly - dancing is a superpower. It was fascinating to hear about all of the ways dancing improved Peter's life, but I think the thing I've taken away the most is Peter's attitude towards failure and his ability to carry on doing what he loves despite huge amounts of negativity.

First solo ep in a whileee and it feels so good to be back chatting with you all. This week I'm sharing my thoughts about unhappiness, how often the only thing getting in your way is you and how our emotions are indicators of how much we're aligning with our values and goals. This week on the pod we have my good friend Nicole Tsang to share her honest experiences with the ups and downs of mental health in the hopes that it helps you to better understand mental health in yourself and in others. Nicole has some incredibly helpful analogies for thinking about the way our brains work and has such a high level of emotional intelligence that I'm sure you'll all take something useful away from our chat which you can apply to your life.
We spoke about Nicole's experiences with therapy, specifically CBT and counselling, so if you have ever considered seeking professional help, think it might be a benefit to you or maybe want to but don't think you're eligible, I hope this episode can show you the value of these tools.

The episode finishes with an immense amount of gratitude for my friends and a song that means the world to me. It was written for me by my best friend Freya and will forever be something I am deeply grateful for. It's beautiful and it is the most incredible thing to be so seen and understood. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Thank you for being here. Truly, this podcast means so much to me and it is the best thing knowing people like listening to it.Â
Love,
Lucy

Hi, welcome back! This week I'm chatting about how self worth is independent of literally anything we do, how feeling enough leads to inspired, meaningful action and how it's normal that our self esteem fluctuates. A very chill, casual episode to hopefully give a clearer perspective on your intrinsic self worth.

"Refusing to accept a bad day is like trying to stop the rain from falling."
Grab your snorkels because we're going deep in this episode. I chat about my spiritual beliefs, experiences with finding perspective through tough times and outlook on the highs and lows of life. Somewhere along the way in the last few years Iâve developed a pretty strong sense of âeverything is working out for me to end up where I need to and be who I need to beâ (even if that involves some pretty hard experiences). It's a bit of a brain dump so I hope you enjoy the honesty can find something to take away.Â
I discuss things that cause friction and feel uncomfortable that stop us from doing what we really want to do, as well as seeking comfort in the bigger picture. Would love to hear your thoughts on this one!! get in touch @lucytalks_ on instagram.

"I've come to terms with the fact that you can't be perfect."
This week on the podcast I chatted with Freya Stewart Grant about intersectional feminism, how to use your voice to make positive change while acknowledging your privilege as well as her experiences with sexism in STEM. Freya is the host of 'Hysterical Woman' and a fellow physics student at UoN. We had such a thought-provoking and engaging conversation that I hope will leave you feeling inspired to use your voice and let it be heard - which is something Freya does brilliantly, and with so much self-awareness.
I definitely recommend listening to Hysterical Woman for more in depth chats about these topics, her guests are amazing and from such a diverse range of perspectives. She aims to amplify marginalised voices that are often overlooked through an intersectional feminist lens. We also recorded an episode on sustainability that you can listen to over there soon... keep your eyes peeled!

What does your ideal life look like? Are you making choices that will help you to get there?
In this episode I discuss why I find so much value in intention setting, how to do it and the things I would love to get out of this year of uni - which somehow is my final year!! I've found that setting intentions for the day, week, month or year ahead helps me so much to feel happy with the decisions I make and to feel centred in who I am. Big yes to that. Hope you find something that resonates with you and that it inspires you to do some of your own intention setting, it's such a powerful tool.
Enjoy & share with a friend who might also enjoy the pod!! Thank you for listening.

"Life is an experiment."
Welcome back, thank you for tuning in! This week I'm trying something different, a new 'diary entry' style podcast ep with snippets every day from my meditation experiences. I love the mindset of being open to trying new things and treating your life a bit like a science experiment - mixing things up, adding new things in to your routine etc. just to see if it can lead to something better! And if it fails, you've learnt something!
So I challenged myself to seven days of consistent daily meditation practice to prove to myself I could do it and to get back into meditating - needed some calm and clarity in my life!! Listen to find out how I found the week of meditation and whether I'll now be setting off to Tibet to become a monk.
Enjoy! And if you choose to start a meditation habit of your own, let me know!!

Do you feel like a lucky person?
All the big questions in this week's episode! Is luck a mindset? Are we taking opportunities that are right under our noses? Can we make ourselves more lucky?
Like most of us, I used to think that luck was something completely out of our control, but what if our mindset influences what we see in the world around us. I loved researching and recording for this one - hope you find it interesting and that it offers a new way of looking at the idea of luck! I speak about the distinction between luck and privilege, psychology studies by Prof. Richard Wiseman on self-described 'lucky' and 'unlucky' people, the 'luck factor' and whether our mental health influences how opportunistic we are.
Enjoy the episode!! And let me know your thoughts @lucytalks_ on instagram, I loveee hearing what you think!

âWell, why not?â Dr. Laura McGuire is a Research Fellow in the department of Psychology at Edge Hill University. Her PhD research focused on tackling an issue of global importance, namely, why consumers are not doing more to change their behaviour in the face of the threat posed by climate change. I loved this conversation so much - Lauraâs attitude of saying yes to things, learning new things & growing in confidence is so inspiring. I loved hearing her discuss her work in primary schools, teaching children about climate change through creative methods as well as her time at Italia Conti working towards a BA in Acting.
"rejection is redirection"
Heya how are we doing?! Bucket loads of honesty and reflection for you in this week's chat, so buckle up:) I've been thinking a lot lately about how most things in life are very unpredictable and changeable, and although that's so hard to accept it's also kind of freeing? After all, if you can't get rid of the uncertainty, you've just got to make the best of each situation as it comes and move on.Â
Also, if we could remove the uncertainty, would we want to? Would it make us happier?

Hi! We've got a good lil episode for you today!!
This week, I spoke to James Faulkner about his experiences doing a PhD at the University of Cambridge, the applications of his research for sustainable and more efficient batteries and the lessons that he's learnt about managing goals and expectations while studying! We ended up going down some really interesting tangents about language, the pros of interdisciplinary research and doing something you can have the most impact in. And if you're interested in going to uni in Cambridge or have always wanted to visit the city, James shares his top places to visit and his fave things to do!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the podcast!!
Today I'm chatting with one of my uni lecturers, Prof. Moriarty, about what makes really good science communication, managing mental health as an academic and bridging the gap with those people who you really do not see eye to eye with.
I found this to be such a thought-provoking and engaging conversation so I hope it changes the way you think about debating with people who you disagree with, or even better leads to some more productive and meaningful conversations! Hi everyone! Welcome to the first episode of Lucy Talks and the start of a new chapter... I'm so excited to get going again with the pod & hope you'll stick around for episodes every Monday morning!
Since I'm all about honesty, I thought I'd start the relaunch off with a chatty, get to know me style episode where you hear from my closest pals what I'm really like. I had so much fun recording this and hope it's a good one to get a better sense for who I am as a person so that you can come back to future episodes feeling like it's a conversation with a friend.
I dive into my biggest fears, biggest goals and favourite things & was actually so impressed by how accurate my friends and family were with these answers... a lil bit too accurate at times tbh!

Hi lovely people! You're in for a treat today :) In this episode Freya and I chat at length about our Myers Briggs personality types (INTJ and ENFJ), discussing what it all means, why it's useful to us and how it can help us better understand ourselves and the people in our lives. I find personalities such a fascinating topic and I think by having an appreciation for them we become more accepting of our natural differences and more able to understand which sorts of people are compatible with our personalities. Enjoy what's essentially one of our kitchen table chats about all the big stuff. Thank you for coming on for round two Freya, I love you to the moon and back.
Also... it's the end of an era!! Stay tuned to the end of the episode for a bit of an announcement! I'm not going anywhere so don't go away hehe but the pod is having a bit of a redesign... I'm a bit scared but excited for something new. It feels like the right time.
All the love and hugs, thank you so so much for the continued support it means the world.
Thank you for listening!

"What if it all goes better than you ever could have imagined?â
I'm a strong believer in the power of our minds to change the way we interact with the world, the way we react to situations and the way we see ourselves. Simple shifts in our thought patterns, when repeated again and again, mean we can live happier, more authentic lives. In this episode I'm sharing three of my favourite mindset shifts that I hope will resonate with you too. Let me know which is your fave @spacetolearnpodcast on instagram, I'd love to hear from you!

Hi hello hi!! Space to Learn is back and I am so ready for it. Third year of uni is complete, which leaves more time for creative projects. So excited to share this episode with you, hope you find it to be some food for thought.
In this ep I'm chatting about whether we've gone too far on the route to being independent and discuss the idea that maybe, relying and trusting others isn't all that bad. Whilst there's so much value in having your own back, I feel sometimes we forget to appreciate that it's kinda essential to trust other people - to be dependent on them. I chat about the problem with not seeking help from others and the benefits of mutual dependency, aka interdependence. It's a bit like a debate with my inner thoughts in this one, so enjoy the chaos!!

"What if you donât need to fix yourself?"
Sometimes I feel the whole self love and acceptance thing can be a little overwhelming. It sometimes can seem like you have to be fully in love with every decision you make, every part about yourself and every version of yourself you've every been.
Which is a big ask. We all make mistakes, we all have things we wish we hadn't said or done, we all have things about ourselves we would like to work on, things we want to improve or parts of who we are that sometimes we don't like very much.
In this ep I chat about how I'm choosing to instead just focus on self-acceptance and being a good friend to myself. It's enough to know you're enough and to give yourself a lil smile as you brush your teeth. We love realistic acts of kindness and cutting out the negative self talk x
Thank you for being here, tune in every Wednesday for new eps!! Lots of love x
"If you don't back yourself, how do you expect anyone else to?"
Hiya and welcome back to the podcast! Recently I've had three interviews for summer internship roles (2 successful, 1 failure) so it feels like the perfect time to share all the tips and tricks I've collated from the internet, advice and personal experience. Honestly I get how stressful interviews can be - that fear of rejection is so real - so here's your ultimate guide to a successful interview.
I chat you through all the questions I prepared, the ways I researched and the tools I used to best prepare myself. So much of interview technique comes down to how well you can tailor your skills to the role description - so prepping for that is massively important. I also think that going into it with the right mindset is crucial - I discuss how mediation & manifestation helped me to feel confident in myself going into it.
Really hope this episode is helpful!! You can do it! Get in touch @spacetolearnpodcast on instagram if you have more questions!!

how often do you feel stuck in a rut? how often do you feel paralysed by fear? how often do you wish you had more confidence? if your answer is anywhere from 'sometimes' to 'literally all the time' then trying something new might be a solution.
in this episode I chat about the science behind how your brain genuinely becomes healthier when you try new things. I also discuss how our brains are more receptive to new information when we're just a lil bit anxious & how you gain confidence by creating evidence of your capabilities. trust me I know how scary it can be to do new things and to push yourself but ask yourself - what's holding me back from doing what I really want to do? âEvery individual makes enough difference that if everyone does it, then change happens. Itâs a really hard thing to consolidate and to come to terms with. I need to feel that Iâm useful but not take the weight of the world on my shoulders.â
This week on the podcast I invited the lovely hosts of URNâs EcoFrenzy, Erin and Gabby, for a chat about sustainability, student radio and doing your bit to prevent climate change without making yourself overwhelmed by guilt. Our chat made me realise how much I enjoy having conversations about the environment. Iâll definitely be having them more going forward.
We spoke in depth about ableism and classism within the climate movement, making dietary changes that work for you, and how large corporations have pushed blame onto the consumer. All topics which are incredibly nuanced but important. We all feel like thereâs a lot of guilt surrounding university lifestyle when it comes to sustainability but hopefully this episode can be reassuring that if youâre doing what you can, that is enough.

"What happened to following our interests just because theyâre interesting to us?"
I think we subconsciously buy into the idea that once we reach a certain point, achieve a certain goal, or have a certain job, then we'll be happy. There are so many narratives we passively live our lives by and accept without second thought. What if we choose to question everything instead? To be curious and unafraid to ask why.
In this episode I discuss my thoughts about how as adults, we lose the wonder and curiosity many of us experienced as children and forget to question our environments and perspectives. Thereâs so much value in continually reflecting and reassessing the way we choose to live our lives. By asking questions like: what happened to following our interests just because theyâre interesting to us?, maybe we can all live more meaningful lives.
I also discuss why although it's scary in the moment, taking a leap of faith and pursuing something that scares you actually makes loads of sense. There are so many unimagined benefits to be had. What's the worst that can happen?

âThere is a growing body of literature that supports the idea that decision making involves not only cognition, but also emotion and intuition.â
Today I'm combining my own experiences when trying to make decisions with scientific research on the head, the heart and the gut. "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the assessment that there is something more important than the fear." - Franklin D Roosevelt
Overthinking is actually the bane of my life so this week I'm essentially overthinking the overthinking (yes I see the irony). Recently I've realised a few things about my fears, doubts and insecurities and how I don't actually have to give them more attention than they deserve. In the episode I chat about welcoming in fear, how our brains receive thoughts rather than create them and share some practical ways to deal with an overthinking mind. "My happiness grows in direct proportion to my acceptance, and in inverse proportions to my expectations.â
Seeing as miss rona has well and truly made a comeback in Notts, everything feels a little bit too unpredictable and up in the air lately. With so many xmassy plans and aspects of my uni routine scrapped this week I've felt a bit stressed out by the way things can change all too quickly and without any control. Which got me thinking about the expectations we have for future events, ourselves and others. So in this week's episode I chat about how most of the time, expectations just led to unrealistic goals of perfection or beliefs that we'll be happy at some point 'in the future'.

I don't know about you, but in my experience it's sooo easy to get sucked into your emotions and lose the bigger picture. But the things we assume to be true because they're our honest opinions and feelings, well, they're not necessarily true. Our egos love to be right, they love to have a strong sense of identity and are quick to shut down anything they see as a personal attack. This week we're discussing questions like 'what are the barriers to open honesty?', 'is it easier for extroverts to be honest?' and 'how can we start honest conversations about men's mental health given toxic masculinity?'. I don't have all the answers but I hope this episode can be food for thought and hopefully inspire some genuine chats about mental health.

"Routines help me to stay motivated and to balance the different areas of my life."
Are you someone who thrives off spontaneity, or are routines the way you like to make sense of things? In this episode, Lucy chats about why routines are what works for her and how, if you are also a creature of habit, you can create routines that help you to find balance and stay sane while achieving your goals. Also discussed is the idea of high, medium and low energy routines, because it's about time we normalised having rough days as well as good days. "All we can really do is make decisions that are right for us in this moment. This, to me, is listening to your intuition."
Hot girl summer is all about being yourself and not giving a damn about what anyone has to say about it. But why should we restrict this to summer? When the summer energy runs out and our day-to-day lives become busier again, surely this is the most important time to be ourselves?Â
In S6E7 Lucy chats about why the hot girl summer mindset is something we should all aim for all year round, what is actually means to 'be yourself' and 5 tips to carry the good vibes forward beyond the summer. If you're prone to comparison, negative self-talk, feeling guilty or saying no to things you want to do out of fear, then this is a must-listen.Â

"No one is judging you as much as you're judging yourself."
Imposter syndrome is that feeling of inadequacy despite apparent success, or believing 'I don't belong here' in certain situations or around certain people. If you struggle with this too, you're definitely not alone, but by working through why it is we feel that way, it's also possible to overcome it.Â
Lucy chats about times when she's experienced Imposter Syndrome and her limiting beliefs that contribute to it and shares a bunch of journal prompts that might help you to identify things that are holding you back and improve your own mindset.
Finally, trusting yourself is so powerful and gives you so much confidence to express yourself and do what's right for you without feeling inadequate, so Luce also chats about that at the end too! You really can do anything you put your mind to!

"I don't want to miss my life." - Lisa Nezneski
For a lot of us, meditation can seem incredibly daunting, or even a waste of time. What will I gain from sitting on the floor for 5 minutes?
In this episode, Lucy talks to Lisa, aka the Meditating Pharmacist, to hopefully shift some perspectives about the reality of meditation and give some actionable ways to implement more mindfulness into your everyday life. As she says in her new book, The Seven Mindful Questions, "the real meditation practice is how we live our lives from moment to moment."
Lucy & Lisa also discuss how to listen to your feelings, especially when making decisions that feel like the most important we'll ever have to make. Trusting yourself enough to be able to handle the consequences of whatever path you choose to go down is so powerful.

"Pain in this life is not avoidable. However, the pain we create avoiding pain is avoidable." â R.D. Laing
It's easier sometimes to avoid pain, to take the easy route and to stay firmly in our comfort zones. It's not always what's best for us though, nor the people we love in our lives. In this episode, Lucy hopes to make the point that in a lot of situations, pain is what we should aim for, because seeking out the sort of pain that means something is infinitely more valuable than the pain of holding back, of regret and of wishing you did more. Listen along as we play a game of 'would you rather' with 5 different life choices to hep shift into a more positive mindset and see 'problems' a little differently.

In this episode, Lucy chats through the Inspiration - Motivation - Action cycle, shares some practical advice for how to get things done with the minimum motivation as well as some prompts for you to find your 'why' for the things you choose to do. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right." - Henry Ford
Ever wondered why no matter how many things you have, how much you achieve, or how many things you tick off your bucket list, you still want more? Maybe you've put in months of hard work and got the grades you wanted, but still aren't satisfied with it. Maybe you've bought the perfect pair of summery shorts, only to start wanting for the perfect pair of jeans.
As it turns out, there's a solution to the endless need for more. Shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset can be SUCH a gamechanger, and over time will help you to live happier, reduce the pressure on yourself and see the goodness of the world clearly.
In this episode, Lucy explains the difference between a mentality focusing on lack to one that focuses on abundance and offers advice for how to make the shift.

Welcome back to this mini series on imperfect sustainability!! My aim for this series is to inspire you to view sustainability in a more positive light and to help you to genuinely make a difference in your own life. Let's tackle this with a non-judgemental, solutions-driven attitude and lift each other up rather than tearing each other down.
Episode 6: a new perspective on food and period waste + a mini Q&A
"No other species has the concept of waste that humans do."
Reducing waste is a huge way we can reduce global warming and our effect on the planet. From food waste to period waste, a solutions-driven attitude could prove to be so helpful if we all do our bit to more more imperfectly sustainable by rethinking waste. Plus a Q&A discussing your thoughts and questions on sustainability to finish.

Episode 5: why we need gender & racial equality for climate justice
"If you care about the planet, you need to care about racial and gender inequalities."
Apart from being so so important in their own right, achieving gender and racial justice are so necessary for reversing climate change and sustainability. Empowering women, educating girls & family planning could prove incredibly important solutions, with a predicted reduction of 1 billion people that could be born by 2050 possible.

"Too often climate coverage leads with data and ends with despair."
In this episode Lucy chats to Matt Bird about his role as Science Editor of Impact Magazine, the best ways to write about climate change to engage the reader and the growing challenges surrounding disinformation in the media. Creating engaging content about sustainability with a solutions-driven focus is in our opinions, far better than the pessimistic, depressing stories we're so accustomed to hearing about that just turn people away from the issue. Matt also shares some insights into his PhD and offers advice for anyone wanting to start writing!

Episode 3: fast fashion vs conscious consumerism
"The most sustainable clothes you can wear are those that are already in your wardrobe."
Fast fashion is a complex and confusing topic to navigate, with so many considerations and nuances to be made. Fashion might seem harmless, but it's actually a hugely polluting industry; manufacturing clothes has a huge water consumption and creates huge amounts of CO2 emissions through transportation and in the factories. There's also a copious amount of waste involved - 12.8 million tons of clothing that end up in landfills every year in the US.
Sustainable fashion is far from perfect at the moment but I think through shifting attitudes, being more mindful about how much and where we shop and considering 'do I love this item' before buying, we can start reducing the harmful effects fashion is having on the planet.

Episode 2: food!! less meat & more mindfulness
"Eat food. Not too much. Mainly plants." - Michael Pollan
It's widely accepted that reducing your meat consumption has a significant positive impact on the planet, since the animal agriculture industry is extensively problematic and highly polluting. In fact, if cattle were their own nation, they'd be the world's third largest emitter of greenhouse gases! Diet is very personal, so there's a lot of nuance when discussing changes to people's diets. There are many cultural, dietary and health considerations to be made and what's more everyone's on their own path. That said, the effect of our overconsumption of meat is one that in my opinion, can't be ignored when discussing sustainability.
Tune in for an honest discussion about the benefits of eating less meat, being more mindful about the food we eat and enjoying the process of cooking. Let me know your thoughts over on instagram @spacetolearnpodcast :)

Episode 1: how to shift your mindset to avoid guilt & perfectionism
"They felt like they belonged to the land, rather than the land belonged to them." - Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth
Climate change is an issue that is extremely important to me; it's one which will have a huge influence over all of our lives for the rest of our lives. If we're going to be successful in reversing climate change, we need to make changes, which in my mind, calls for a collective mindset shift. We need to get over this fear of imperfection, to build the confidence to act, to stop making ourselves and others feel guilty and to be open-minded enough to make lifestyle changes. Overcoming perfectionism and instead being open to making mistakes could really help to promote a more widespread change. Spoiler alert: no one is perfect!!

In this episode Lucy discusses the reality of being in a rut, feeling low on inspiration and things that have helped her to find inspiration and a sense of purpose. Feeling low energy is something we all experience - it's worth remembering that it's so natural to have low points, but also that there are practical things we can do to feel better. Lucy also chats about how being busy and socialising post-lockdown can be kinda overwhelming and how someone's highlight reel on social media doesn't necessarily equate to them feeling good mentally - so spare yourself the negative thought patterns of comparison!!

"We need to master the art of personal reinvention." -- Matthew Syed in Rebel Ideas
Happy Pride Month! This week, Lucy's having a chat about all the different ways we can choose to identify ourselves, the ways in which identity is useful and the ways it's not. Sometimes we can feel like we owe it to people to live up to their ideas of who we are, but really it's up to us how we want to be seen. Change is so inevitable too - our lives change all the time, so it's natural that parts of our identity change over our lives as well - once we realise that we're free to define ourselves however we like and stop restricting ourselves with labels that no longer fit with who we are, we're free to do so much more than we might have thought possible.

"Routine is the enemy of time."
Like most things, productivity isn't inherently good or bad, but when it becomes an endless competition with others and stress leaves us continually feeling burnout and unmotivated, surely our societal norms have gone amiss somewhere along the way? In this episode, Lucy discusses her thoughts and experiences with toxic productivity, hustle culture and burnout, offers some advice for reducing stress and being more mindful as well as chatting about the problems with our capitalist mindsets.
According to research by the Mental Health Foundation, 1 in 6 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given week, with the number 1 cause of this being work-related stress- so it's clearly an important topic to talk about. Know that you're not alone if you feel stressed, anxious or low and please chat to a loved one about how you're feeling or seek professional help. Lots of love.

"The idea that we are âover raceâ is precisely how racism is sustained." âKaty Sian, University of York
Trigger warning for racism and discussions on white supremacy.
Another week, another episode of Space To Learn! This week Lucy's discussing racism in the UK and why the internal work to dismantle subconscious beliefs and biases due to our white supremacist society is so important. It's a year on since the death of George Floyd- how much has changed thanks to the Black Lives Matter Movement? Lucy addresses why racism is an issue white people must engage with and shares some incredibly insightful resources she's found helpful in the process of educating herself on race and unpacking internal white supremacy. If you haven't previously engaged with content on race then please go and listen to the voices of People of Colour first - the aim is not to make this discussion white centred but to point out ways we can be more actively anti-racist and to think more deeply about our impact. "If you think it's right for you, who is anyone else to tell you it's not??"
Having the confidence to trust your intuition and back those gut feelings up with action can be so so difficult, especially if you're fighting against people telling you they don't think it's a good idea. But at the end of the day, those feelings are guiding you towards what you know in your heart to be the right thing to do, so go after those wildest dreams!!! You only get one life here.
In this episode, Lucy talks about some research into intuition, why mindfulness can be really helpful and some musings on the value of trusting yourself. If you're struggling to work out what's right for you, you're in the right place.

"What if you look back and wonder, what if I'd had the confidence to fail in that situation?"
Thanks for coming back for part three, wanting to build confidence is so admirable so kudos to you tuning in again!Â
This episode is all about overcoming fear of failure, being able to admit your mistakes and having the confidence to be wrong. Fear of failure is something we've all experienced, but realising that this is only holding you back and doesn't have to stop you going after what you want in life can help you build so much self-confidence. And making mistakes is the only way to properly learn a lesson so is such a crucial part of growing and becoming more confident in who you are. Turning that fear of failure into a fear of looking back and regretting not trying is one of the best things you can do for yourself. You've got this!!
Journal prompt: what are you too scared to try because you're scared of failing or of what other people might think? what would you do if you knew it didn't matter how it turned out?

Sometimes it's all too easy to fall back on something you said you were gunna do but if you wouldn't break a promise to a friend, why break a promise to yourself? Hopefully this episode can provide a lil bit of inspiration for you to do the things that scare you even though it can feel impossible. You've got this!!

Welcome to part one of my mini 5 part series on building confidence!! Confidence is a tool that will enable you to become the best version of yourself, so it's really important we practice trusting our own abilities and skills. This is your reminder that you're just as capable of happiness and success as the people you admire if you just grow a lil self-confidence! Lucy chats about why confidence is valuable to her as well as how we can get closer to our future self and dream life through looking back and appreciating how far we've come already. Your past self has done some pretty cool things to get you to where you are now so your present self is capable of doing more than you might think!!Â

"Treat people as experts on their own experiences and believe them." - Florence Given
In this week's episode of Space to Learn Lucy's discussing the horrible statistics and stories that have emerged from many, many women and girls about sexual harassment following the tragic death of Sarah Everard. She shares her thoughts on the 'not all men' argument, opens up about her own experiences and talks about what we can all do to help, but especially what men can do to help. Because even though it's not all men who are perpetrators, it is the responsibility of all men to help create a society where everyone feels safe on the streets.
Since recording this episode, misogyny has been made a hate crime in England and Wales - a step in the right direction. So much more needs to be done however so having conversations about this issue is so important. Thank you so much for listening and please share this one with your friends and family if you think it might help. Lots of love x

âThe value of things is not the time they last but the intensity with which they occur.â
Welcome back to Space to Learn! Lucy's here to offer her thoughts and advice on how to move on from something that's not making you happy, whether it be a relationship, something you regret or something you feel guilty for. In order to grow into the person we want to be, sometimes the only thing to do is to let go of something that's holding us back. Letting go can be tough but with time, moving on from a not-so-great part of your life can be so positive! Hopefully the journal prompts discussed in the episode can help you on your way to becoming your best, most authentic and happy self, because who doesn't love that. Sending lots of love if you've tapped on this episode because something's not right at the moment, you can get through anything with enough time and kindness.
Journal prompts:
Write down areas of your life that you're not happy with, that make you feel insecure or sad about. Things you miss, mistakes you made that you haven't forgiven yourself for or something you said that you regret.
Write down the things you love the most. What makes you feel fulfilled? How you can try to generate more of these things? What are you grateful for?
Write down all the things you would love to experience. What new opportunities would make you most excited? How can you turn these things into plans for the future?

Frustrated with always hearing all about our impending doom and our dying planet? Lucy's here to offer a different perspective on the climate crisis in this episode which should hopefully leave you feeling empowered to do something about the challenges we face (rather than wanting to just bury your head in the sand). Focusing on the problems is only creating guilt, inaction and anger, but if we start putting the solutions that exist already into action, we might start to actually improve the situation. So, let's talk about what we can do!!
In this episode, Lucy explains some of the things she's learnt through engaging with the work of the incredible organisation Project Drawdown, who focus on stopping catastrophic climate change. From educating girls across the globe to green energy production, they've calculated that if the solutions we have now are scaled up, we are capable of reversing global warming. What are we waiting for?!
"We don't need a few people doing it perfectly. We need everyone making changes imperfectly."

Season 4 is here!! This episode is all about the many ways in which adopting a growth mindset as opposed to a fixed one will enable you to be more resilient, motivated, open and successful in the long run. It's such a powerful tool - if you can train your mind to see opportunity in every difficulty and to reframe "I'm not good at this," to "I'm not good at this YET," then you'll experience long-term fulfilment, growth and happiness even as things inevitably challenge you. Lucy chats you through several growth mindset frameworks and sends love to anyone having a tough time at the moment- it's so okay to not be okay right now. Hopefully the podcast can be an escape from things that are getting you down if life is tough right now. x

"You can be the ripest peach on the planet, but there'll still be someone who doesn't like peaches."
Hi everyone!! This is part 2 in a mini 3 episode series on Relationships, this week Lucy's focusing on the relationship you have with yourself and how to not let outside influence affect that, since the best way to find like-minded people and create strong relationships is to be true to yourself. Lucy talks about not letting the fear of what others think about you get to you - at the end of the day, the people who aren't happy for you probably aren't happy for themselves either! It's impossible for everyone to be a fan of something you do, so you may as well just do whatever makes you happy. For advice on avoiding jealousy and letting go of the need for others' approval, keep listening!!

Hey lovely people! Lucy has a very honest, free-flowing chat in this week's episode about our subconscious minds, limiting beliefs, privilege and learning new things. It's so important that we go into new situations, meet new people or try to understand new ideas with an open mind so that we can actually be receptive to new information and not be consumed by our existing beliefs and opinions. Unlearning what we think we know can be pretty tricky because our subconscious minds tend to think they're right, but it's so key for eliminating issues such as racism, political division and gaslighting. Let's all be open minded so we can focus on what's genuinely important to us <3.

This week on Space To Learn Lucy's talking about the incredibly important topic that is Climate Change. Despite what we might believe, we all have power in our lives to make a difference in reducing our carbon footprints, educating ourselves on the issues we face and being conscious about what we spend our money on. Pursuing a sustainable lifestyle can often seem futile or impossible but there are so so many easy things we can do to reduce our impact on the planet and it is now vital that we all make these changes and see the Climate Crisis as something we are capable of reversing. Please share this episode with friends, family and on social media - this issue is only going to be fixed when we all come together and create a sense of community and shared responsibility.

Mental Health is such a vital part of our wellbeing yet mental illness and poor mental health are really not talked about enough. Especially in these current 'rona times, keeping up with everything life throws at you and not feeling overwhelmed or anxious can be extremely difficult. In this episode, Lucy has a very informal, raw chat about the growing issues surrounding mental health in the student community, comparison, spirituality and feelings of loneliness. If you take anything away from the pod, let it be that being kind to yourself is not a weakness, and that you're doing enough :)Â
Enjoy the episode and have a lovely week, whatever you're doing.

Join me for a very chatty episode where I ramble about things I've learnt over the past 6 months in lockdown in the hope that it can offer a fresh perspective or a new outlook. Whatever 2020 has looked like for you so far I hope this episode reaches you in a good place - that you're okay and doing good - because this has been such a crazy and difficult time for so many people in a lot of different ways. I also share some thoughts on anti-racism, Clap for Carers, community, self-care, commitment and the Law of Attraction - it's a real mixed bag this week!

An episode all about ways to get out of your comfort zone and why doing so is so beneficial and important! I really believe that doing things because we are scared of them is the best way to build confidence and learn new things, which is what the podcast is all about. Leave a review on Apple Podcasts if you're enjoying the podcast so far, would love to get the podcast out to more people. Things mentioned in the episode: Everything is F***ed - Book by Mark Manson Not Overthinking Podcast The 4 Hour Work Week - Tim Ferris Thanks for listening to Space To Learn:) Lucy x
This episode is for all the perfectionists out there or anyone who has ever been scared to fail (so all of us?!) I chat through why failure is such a valuable tool, why we should value progress over the end result, climate change and bettering yourself. Perfectionism can be a really tough mindset to shift out of so if you often feel stressed, intimidated or lack self-belief when faced with a new challenge then this episode should really help!Â

The Butterfly Effect says that tiny things can have a huge impact- so this week I'm talking about how to reduce anxiety from thinking about the future and how acts of kindness can really make a big difference. I talk about how our futures are influenced by so many uncontrollable little things that it is impossible to predict exactly what it might look like, and how to see this as a positive thing rather than it leading you to stress.
Thank you so much for the support and please continue to share with your friends! Lots of love, Lucy x
