Political Analyst from UNISA Professor Lesiba Teffo says the coalition led by the DA in various municipalities have been fairly successful despite the problems encountered since the agreements were reached. Teffo spoke as the partners briefed the media in Johannesburg about their achievements and challenges they encountered in the past year. They have told the media that it has not always been smooth sailing but that they are forging ahead. Relations between coalition partners have been particularly strained in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro where the Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Athol Trollip and his former deputy from the UDM Mongameli Bobani, were at each other's throats following allegations that Bobani voted with the ANC. He was subsequently removed from his position in August after a vote of no confidence against him. Teffo has told our presenter Stephen Kirker that the coalition is important.
