The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Department John Jefferey says stakeholders owe it to the victims of sexual offences to make sure the Sexual Offences Act works. He was speaking during a media briefing in Pretoria this morning. Stakeholders including government, civil society groups and the National Prosecuting Authority met over two days last week to reflect on whether the Act is dealing with the problem of abuse effectively. Crime Stats released by the Police Ministry in October show that the number of sexual offences reported has decreased by 4.3%. Stephen Kirker spoke to the Deputy Minister of the Justice and Constitutional Development Department John Jeffery.
