The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) says learners will have to take matters into their own hands if government continues to fail them by not addressing issues of rape and corporal punishment in schools. The organisation held media briefing in Johannesburg. In recent weeks a number videos have been emerging on social media of teachers seen either viciously attacking pupils or sexually assaulting them. In KwaZulu-Natal alone the Department of Education suspended six teachers accused of sexual offences against pupils at five different schools. We spoke to COSAS president John Macheke.
