The Department of Energy says it has conducted extensive research into how it will implement the New Nuclear Build Programme. In total more than 210 million rand was spent on various investigations including comparing nuclear to shale gas, cost of nuclear and pre-procurement Readiness Assessment among others. The costs include a 171 million rand spend on a Programme Management System. Meanwhile the Southern African Faith Communities' Environment Institute (SAFCEI) says if the South African government is prepared to spend billions on something they have not yet fully discussed with the country, then it shudders to think what the final nuclear bill be.
