The ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe says that Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi's absence from yesterday's party Sub-committee on Communications is not an indication of defiance. Last week the chairperson of the committee Jackson Mthembu indicated that the ruling party would meet with Muthambi to discuss the recent developments at the SABC. Mantashe says that the SABC should reconsider challenging the ruling by telecommunications regulator ICASA. During a media briefing in Sandton yesterday, ICASA ordered that the public broadcaster withdraw its decision not to broadcast visuals of violent protests. SABC Chief Operations Officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng indicated that ICASA, being a Chapter 9 institution, can only make recommendations which are not binding by court of law.
