The SACP has said it is excited that Justice Minister Micheal Masutha has not released Clive Derby Lewis from jail on medical parole. SACP had made a submission to Masutha saying that Derby-Lewis must remain behind bars as he has failed to fully disclose who and what was behind SACP Leader Chris Hani's assasination in April 1993. The Minister found that Derby-Lewis's condition - stage three B cancer did not merit his release. The Correctional Services legislation says a prisoner must have stage four cancer to be eligible for parole. The minister also raised questions about the exact the identity of the person from who samples were obtained after Derby-Lewis claimed to have initially used a psydonym to hide his identity.
