The 75-year old Jacob Zuma, had led the ANC - as its President since 2007 and Head of State from 2009. With his tenure in office having come to an end it has recorded successes in areas such as HIV/Aids and the hosting of a successful Soccer World Cup but has been marred by a series of corruption scandals that have impacted negatively on his party. It is under Zuma's rule the ANC has suffered its worst-ever electoral performance losing key metros in the August 2016 local elections.
