Here is the 370th chapter of the Deep Electronics serie. Every two weeks the serie brings you a diversity into the abyss of deep electronic music. This week DJ BIRCH makes her debut on the channel with a set that can be decribed as a walk into the forest with all different layers of colors, sounds and surroundings. Just as she used the type of genres of music to paint this walk. So Enjoy!

BIO: DJ BIRCH is a Halle (Germany) based DJ, curator, and cultural organizer. She conducts DJ workshops and offers platforms aimed at empowering FLINTA people (female, lesbian, intersexual, non-binary, transgender and agender, the asterisk * stands for everyone who cannot identify with any of the letters and who is marginalized in patriarchal majority societies) of all backgrounds. Being involved in the @djversity! and @featfem crews, she works to create more diversity in music scenes and club cultures, showcasing a range of FLINTA artists. She and her crews want to emphasize that there are many FLINTA talents who can be booked for club events or festivals. DJ BIRCH co-hosts the podcast series of Feat. Fem and she curates the SLOTS events at Pierre Grasse in Halle. Her genre-crossing sounds blend trippy rhythms, fluctuating between melodic and more abrasive timbres and shaping sounds that feel light and heavy at the same time. This creates a journey with dualistic atmospheres, eventempered textures, spiraling synth patterns, bouncy bassline heaters and eerie ambiances. All these sonic ventures are rooted in DJ BIRCH’s much larger yearning for societal change: In her formative years, DJs seemed ‘untouchable’ and FLINTA DJs were underrepresented. For a long time, this produced the feeling that the music world is one where she can only play the role as an observer and DJed mainly at home (unless friends vehemently askedher to play at their events). Through different music collectives, BIRCH was able to break down these invisible walls and make sense of the structural problems in electronic music culture, music production and DJing. With fresh courage she stepped out of the background. Today she loves to perform her music at different venues and on many platforms. Aside from her DJ passion, it is a matterclose to her heart to pass this unearthed fearlessness onto others.
THE SET: This set was recorded in Winter 2021/2022, a time in which DJ BIRCH was struggling with pandemic restrictions, personal crises, and the bittersweet melancholy of a grey winter in Germany. With the name Deep in the Birch Forest, it reflects a slight touch of the gloom of a foggy forest combined with a hopeful, gentle flow, deepness, and rhythmic layers which are connected to the woods: A magical place where DJ BIRCH restores her energy, finds inspiration, and loves to perform music. Let the ambient and slow techno vibrations guide you deep into the forest.
