The DA’s Siviwe Gwarube has been appointed as the minister of basic education. She takes over the portfolio from Angie Motshekga who has been leading the ministry since 2009. Gwarube, a politics, law and philosophy graduate from Rhodes University and the University of the Western Cape, has been a DA MP since May 2019.
