What Coaching is and Prince Harry!

Hi! How are you? This is Coach Dr Elena Pezzini, Italian American.

I want to explain In a few minutes, succinctly, what coaching is and isn’t.

Because there is often confusion, since it’s a relatively new industry/profession, but still very Powerful.

Are there differences between therapy, consulting & coaching?

Yes?

What are they?

  • Therapy: heals trauma from the past, it’s past-focused, medical model, hierarchy, the patient is below. If someone sounds anxious, depressed, isn’t supposed to be coached, but can be asked what he/she/they think about therapy, how they feel about going
  • Consulting, Subject Matter Expert (SME): assess, consultant can even do work for you/the client, the client is told what to do and is paid regardless of whether the client likes or applies the advice. The relationship ends after the advice is given. A consultant doesn’t wait to see if the client gets results and doesn’t help the client apply or implement new plans, step by step, with “hand-holding”. There is no accountability. Consulting does include attorneys, Medical Doctors, and financial planners. Planners work for banks, brokerages, credit unions and financial institutions. Financial planners earn a fee off your ROIs -Return on Investments- which is a conflict of interest and unethical in personal coaching
  • Coaching: based on mutual trust, there is no hierarchy, no SME, it’s a journey together with you, where coach and client can explore any obstacle or what’s between clients and the success they want to achieve, it’s future-focused, and it’s not medical. All “coachees”/clients are viewed and considered intelligent, resourceful, powerful, wanting and seeking more ease, and speed. If there are SMEs, then they are you, the client)
