This:

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian member of Congress, is calling on the International Criminal Court to issue a warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israeli forces seized Rafah in the Gaza Strip.

“There is nowhere safe in Gaza,” Ms. Tlaib, Michigan Democrat, said in a statement Tuesday.

“I urge the ICC to swiftly issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and senior Israeli officials to finally hold them accountable for this genocide, as is obviously warranted by these well-documented violations of the Genocide Convention under international law,” she added.

The first thought that ran through my mind was, “Of course! We could have avoided the entirety of World War II if only we had arrested Hitler after the invasion of Poland!” (Not that there is any actual comparison between Netanyahu and Hitler, for crying out loud.) I know, the ICC did not exist back in the late 1930’s, but that is not the point. This’ll never happen.

Consider, from the ICC’s own website:

As a judicial institution, the ICC does not have its own police force or enforcement body; thus, it relies on cooperation with countries worldwide for support, particularly for making arrests, transferring arrested persons to the ICC detention centre in The Hague, freezing suspects’ assets, and enforcing sentences.

Sure, Israel is going to go right out and arrest its prime minister for prosecuting a war the entire nation wants. No more so than Gazans would go out and arrest all those Hamas soldiers that did all that nasty to Israelis. Give me a break here. Where is the actual crime against humanity? (That’s the stuff the ICC is supposed to go after.) People in Rafah have had weeks to get the heck out of the way. It is not like this surprises anyone.

Look, I get it, Tlaib is an antisemitic, racist bigot, but that was established long ago. But this? This is just stupid – calling on a court with no actual power to act on behalf of the perpetrators of a genuine and heinous crime against a nation/state prosecuting a just and legal war. Look, the American people can elect whoever they want to the House of Representatives, but honestly, don’t you think at some point there ought to be an intelligence test administered and passed before actual credentials are issued? If she thinks she was elected to try and protect people in an entirely different nation than this one, then I guess she is entitled to do so, but I can think of about a million ways to do so that would be far more effective than this – spitting towards Israel and into the wind being just the first.

This brings new meaning to the phrase “Stuck on stupid.”

FINAL QUESTION (while we are speaking of stupid): How in the world do the details of a sexual encounter between two individuals have anything to do with a trial about moving money around?
