Much has been made in recent weeks that the presidential betrayal of Israel is in search of a few votes around Detroit. Not sure the cost/benefit ratio works out on that one, but it is far from the only place where liberal policy math just does not work. Consider the EV.

Over the weekend, an op-ed appeared from CO(5) Congressman Doug Lamborn who rightly points out the insanity of mandating EV’s when absolutely none of the infrastructure necessary to support them exists. From charging capabilities to roadway engineering, design and construction to necessary mineral extraction infrastructure, the EPA mandate that 30% of vehicles sold must be EVs by 2032 just does not add up. It is even questionable that EVs are the environmental panacea we tend to think they are. Consider:

Protesters clash with police as some try to storm a Tesla plant near Berlin. Demonstrators are against the plant’s expansion, which organizers say would damage the environment.

And therein lies a hint on environmental policy. There is an insanity here, a clear break with reality. Supposedly we need, make that have-to-have, EV’s to save the planet, but the necessary infrastructure to build them can’t be built because it will harm the planet. There is an insanity here.

One must conclude that all this EV regulation and legislation in in pursuit of a few votes, apparently from crazy people.

Democrats have long been a coalition of limited interest groups, each in a minority but when combined enough to be nationally competitive. One has to wonder if this strategy has gone too far. Where once they chased labor union and ethnic minority votes, they now chase ever smaller groups of people with ever wilder positions. Somehow, we have gone from the commonsense mission of preventing rivers from burning to trying to force the nation into vehicles that they then cannot reasonably operate. Where once justice drove them to help the truly oppressed ethnic minorities of the nation, they now dispense with any sense of justice, to the point of betraying a truly brother-nation.

There has to be something more at play here than sheer political calculation. These policies are 1) unreal and 2) unjust. It is also too easy to lay this off at the president’s infirmity. There are too many check-and-balances for these policies to actually hit the ground unless the party is on board. Something is deeply, deeply broken in the Democrat party – something essential.
