The host is quite animated on the show this morning due to the farce of the Trump NYC trial. He carried on about it at great length at Fox. His case is simple – the entire episode is driven by TDS – Trump Derangement Syndrome – hatred. I presume the host’s uncommon level of energy on this specific story is due to his love of the rule of law. And so we see hatred destroying the rule of law. So deep is this hatred of Trump that the haters feel they must protect “science” from Trump. In the first place, no president can threaten “science” – they can only threaten the science bureaucracy in the federal government, two very different things. Which means what they are doing is undermining the will of the people. We elect a president to execute the policy that he or she campaigned on, but here we see a prior administration acting to prevent the next administration from doing what we, the voting public, elected it to do. And thus hatred is destroying the very foundations of our nation. But it gets even deeper.
This hatred of Trump is a part of a toxic stew. It turns out that this effort to “protect science from Trump” is deeply rooted in DEI. DEI is itself an expression of hatred. Think about it. Somehow the civil rights movement of my youth, a movement designed to rightfully erase hatred of people based on race has somehow, within my lifetime, morphed into something just as bigoted and what it was designed to erase. Consider:
The Biden administration unveiled a plan that would push American hospitals to prioritize low-income patients when performing kidney transplants, a move Health and Human Services secretary Xavier Becerra says is aimed at rooting out “racial inequities” in the “transplant process.”
If you do not know about the kidney transplant process in this nation it is difficult. The need is immense as it is the final fate of many diabetes patients, but the supply is short and so the typical wait for a kidney is ten years. That’s ten years of a life on dialysis – a life severely limited as the huge number of hours each week devoted to the dialysis machine. That’s ten years that many do not make it through. Which patient gets a kidney when it becomes available, is a difficult decision indeed. It is troubling enough that doctors are making decisions on whose life to save, whose to continue to chain to a machine, and who will, in not too long, pass away. They try to do so based on objective criteria such as the otherwise general state of health of the patient. Objective standards notwithstanding, it is scary anytime people are deciding who lives, who is disabled and who dies. And now the government is getting involved to make sure totally irrelevant considerations like race are involved?!
It may not be the racial lynchings of decades ago, but deciding who lives and dies based, in any way, on race is simply heinous. It is as rooted in hatred as the lynchings once were, just with a more civil facade.
In three stories we see hatred destroying the rule of law, the roots of our republic and common decency. Hatred is an extremely destructive force and in its furious rage it blinds its bearer to the destruction being wrought. In that blindness, hatred breeds violent responses, not because of a reciprocal hatred, but because it is the only way to make the destruction cease. Israel does not hate Gaza, but Gaza hates Israel and Israel has to make the destruction, born of the Gazan’s hatred, stop.
Most people in this nation are not full of or blinded by hatred – but there is clearly a significant and highly vocal minority that is. They are aiming their destructive force at things most fundamental. We have been trying for the better part of a decade now to check that hatred and its destructive tendencies with love – but the destruction continues. And so, we are forced to conclude that either the hatred is now so completely blind that it cannot detect love, or the love is not radical enough.
The destruction has to stop and we have to decide how to stop it.
