“Death to America” chants have now become so frequent that they are hardly news. Let’s just start with that – not “American is dead wrong” – not “American’s position on Israel is contemptable” – nothing so mild. The chants are a literal wish for the death, death mind you, of an entire nation. Given that acts of terror killing hundreds, and in at least one case thousands, of Americans have been conducted by the ideological brethren of those making such chants, it is hard to dismiss the chants as merely metaphorical.

Then there is this (HT):

In an act of vandalism apparently carried out by pro-Hamas radicals in the Netherlands, the statue honouring Holocaust victim Anne Frank in Amsterdam was graffitied with the word “Gaza” in red paint on Tuesday afternoon.

The hatred involving in such an act is frightening. It accomplishes nothing other than an expression of hatred. Not only do the perpetrators find it necessary to express their hatred, but they do so at the expense of a monument honoring an innocent child.

The seven deadly sins are becoming far too evident these days. In these two stories we see pride, wrath and envy very publicly on display.

THE STORY – Joe Biden’s continued presence in the White House – while not so vile, is filled with pride, envy, greed and a touch of gluttony. No one wants him there save himself, his family and a few strangling supporters. To hold onto the office in the face of the overwhelming opposition to his presence there is not born of any good or selfless impulse.

We live in a troubled world – in reality the world is always troubled. We humans are prone to such wrongfulness. But right now it feels like we are embracing our wrongfulness rather than struggling against it. More evidence of the seven deadlies – in this case sloth.

That uneasiness you feel is justified. But it is not just because Joe Biden is in the White House or because there are people out there that want to kill us. Those are symptoms, not the disease. That uneasiness you feel is because in all those stories we are calling the wrong at least justified, if not right. The world is truly upside down.
