As I write, Fox News is on inthe background, former President Trump has been shot, fortunately with apparently only minor injuries, “moments ago.” I cannot yet find reporting with a precise time-of-day. Reports are that the shooter was shot by Secret Service and is dead. There are reports of injuries and possibly death of others in attendance at the rally. Live TV coverage from all sources is, of course, chaotic and few facts are known. The news came over the internet rapidly, we tuned in the TV and once it was established that Trump was going to be OK I found myself wondering how long that universal condemnation will last. We are already playing politics with the health and well-being of the current occupant of the White House, you would have to think the same thing is going to happen with this.
I can’t believe I have to say this, but this is the point where politics have to end. That applies to former President Trump, but to President Biden’s health as well. The shooting is undeniable, and President Biden’s health is transparent. President Biden is putting his health into the political fray by failing to be straightforward and direct about it. We do not know the motivation of the shooter in this incident and given reports of the shooters death we may never know it. Politics hates a void and former President Trump will undoubtedly be tempted to fill that void with politics. It has to end. It just has to.
TV is right now already trying to fill the motivation void. STOP IT! The last presidential shooter was a total nutcase, motivated by fantasies unrelated to politics.
Everybody is condemning “political violence.” But the issue is bigger – violence is an endgame, not THE game. There is something wrong with the game if violence is the endgame. We have to fix the game.
