The “Harris Honeymoon” we are currently experiencing has a vague familiarity to it. She, and now Walz, are talked about, rather frighteningly, in messianic tones – the same tones we heard used about Barack Obama back in the day. Remember when Obama dared claimed nearly messianic powers for himself – claiming (“with humility” – snicker, snicker, snicker) that his nomination would heal the sick and stop the oceans from rising? Obama’s CoS, Rahm Emmanuel, famously said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that [is] it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.” That has guided the Democratic Party for some years now. And thus the “crisis” created when Joe Biden’s incapacity was “suddenly” discovered was used to produce a coup d’etat within the Democratic Party. That’s what I call irony. Harris’ seeming miraculous rise solves a huge crisis for Democrats and so she has that same messianic aura.

The host originally used the term “coup” in a Fox column a couple of weeks ago. Let’s remind ourselves just what coup d’etat means:

a sudden and decisive action in politics, especially one resulting in a change of government illegally or by force.

“Illegal…by force…” The messianic aura that surrounds the Harris/Walz ticket is absolutely necessary to provide cover for how illegitimate their electoral status actually is. Without that messianic appearance they got bupkis. And so, we can count on a campaign that will present them as solutions to all sorts of existential problems that until now, we did not even know we had.

Sometimes, the messianic aura will appear in the proposed solutions. For example, did you know, “Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris once threatened to use databases of gun owners to send police to their homes to confiscate firearms.” Now, to be fair, she only proposed to do that with people that were forbidden to own firearms for good reason – but still. You got to think in messianic terms to have the hubris to even consider such a thing.

And, if you are the messiah, it does not matter how silly your “solution” to a non-existent problem actually is. Did you know that as Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz signed a bill, “signed last year requiring schools to provide free menstrual products in all student restrooms in grades 4-12.” Emphasis in that quote on the word “all,” including the boy’s room. If you indeed have messianic powers, then I guess boys can be made to menstruate too.

Until we had government messiahs, we could not cope with heat. Now we close parks when it gets hot unless people are too stupid to take it easy in the heat. It can be difficult to tell the difference between your nanny and the messiah, I guess. And I guess poor people need the messiah more than people of means because, well, they don’t have air conditioning. (Whatever happened to hanging out at the mall on a really hot day?) It’s amazing the actual Messiah, you know – Jesus, did not start tossing air conditioners off the cross while He was actually saving us.

But then the poor have it pretty good. I guess it is because I am now on Medicare because before I was, I had no idea that there were “Duel Special Needs Plans” for people that get both Medicare and Medicaid – in other words really poor people. Now I get ads for it all the time, even though I make too much money to qualify. I won’t bore you with the details – it’s all in the link – but I cannot BUY insurance this good (not that I want to) and these people get it for free! I guess the messiahs only work for some people.

And these are powerful messiahs indeed. When Jesus was in tempted in the desert, He refused to exercise His heavenly power over the earth. But these messiahs are going to save the planet from us displaying powers far beyond those of the actual Messiah.

And, of course, if you are going to claim to be the messiah, you have to go to war with the actual Messiah.

This messianic projection onto political figures has gone way too far. Captain America had it exactly right.
