The deceit of which the Harris campaign has been born is only multiplied by the deceit actually in her campaign. We cannot rely on a word she says. The host laid it out well in his Fox column this morning, “The U.S. will quickly become the land of no borders at all and a ruined healthcare system coupled with the rising energy costs that accompany a “true believer” on climate hysteria because, while her campaign team says she’s changed on her stated desire to ban all fracking, why would we believe that?” Why would we believe her? She hid Biden’s issues until it suited her rise. Axios explains that she is just going to reverse course on multiple issues, and claim her White House experience changed her mind. What can you believe with such reversals? The Axios piece also carries this most ominous warning, “She also wants a clean break from Biden’s often-backward-looking lens on democracy….”
I don’t know what is worse there, that she thinks she can break from Biden or that she wants to be forward looking on democracy. How the h&^% do you look forward or backward on democracy? I start by focusing needs on efforts to break with Biden. Let’s think about this for just a minute. Biden simply betrayed the American military and the allies of American democracy in the withdrawal from Afghanistan. It’s not about lies, or changing directions, or any other spin or meme-casting you can invent – it was a betrayal, costing American lives and uncountable Afghan ones – many of them people we had promised our protection to. Betrayal, betrayal, betrayal.
If she wants to break with Biden, that is when she should have done it. So deep was that betrayal that anyone that stayed in that Administration owns it – it is inescapable. Resignation was the only honorable way out of owning that mess, and no one, including V.P. Harirs did so.
Then there are the stories of betrayal that cannot be verified – the persistent, but unsubstantiated rumors of deep, deep betrayal of Israel. Not only can Harris not escape those rumors; she will make them worse. The antisemitism, implied if denied, in her choice of running mate, and definitely present in the far left of her party can only raises suspicions.
Which takes me back to the whole idea of a “break from Biden’s often-backward-looking lens on democracy….” A functioning democracy rests of two important pillars – trust and transparency. There is no trust when there has been betrayal. There is no transparency when there has been this much lying. So I guess she actually is “forward-looking” on democracy – she wants to do away with it. In the post just linked I talked about the use of an “emergency” to seize power – first in covid and now in her candidacy. Which reminds me of how the Roman Republic died – on the anvil of an emergency.
The host’s column this morning asks how bad a Harris administration could get. Worse than he thinks – it could spell the end of democracy as we know it.
