In my graduate mathematics course, I created a lesson plan in VCU format. Then, I assessed the lesson plan and transformed it into an inquiry lesson plan. This lesson plan helped me dig deep into the content of geometry for second grade. My full lesson plan took a lot of thought and reflection.
In my Practicum class, we learned that formative assessments are vital to assess student progress and growth. I did a Diagnostic Interview with several students to gauge their understanding of US Customary and Metric measurement. The names of the students in this interview have been changed for confidentiality.
I created an inquiry lesson plan for my second grade math placement. My inquiry lesson focused on geometric shapes. I used technology as an anticipatory set. Students had an opportunity for movement around the classroom to explore the different shapes that can be seen and record them.
In my Math 362 class, I worked with Emily Powers and Ryan Bennett to discuss the similarities and differences between our first grade students. They all worked on the same problems that dealt with addition and subtraction. I worked with Spring Run Elementary School in Chesterfield County in Spring 2016.
