Dr. Gravity Goldberg is the author of Mindsets and Moves: strategies that help readers take charge, from Corwin Literacy.
She is also the co-author of Conferring with Readers and the author of many articles about reading, writing, and professional development. Her doctorate is from Columbia, she is a former staff developer at the Reading and Writing Project, and an assistant professor at Iona Colleg’s graduate education program. She leads a group of literacy consultants in the New York / New Jersey region, and she is in the classroom working with teachers nearly every day.

Julie Wright is a teacher, instructional coach, and consultant with over 20 years of experience in education. She taught at the elementary level for 14 years and led district-wide professional development for literacy and social studies teachers for six years. She served as an adjunct faculty member at Ashland University, teaching graduate courses focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
She is a contributor to Choice Literacy and Lead Literacy, and is currently writing a series for Heinemann s Digital Campus titled Love Letters. Julie also supports instructional coaches by working for Diane Sweeney Consulting.
Recently, Julie has worked as an instructional coach at Harlem Village Academies in NYC and she is currently the RTI Coordinator and supports reading teachers for Mamaroneck Union Free School District in Westchester County, NY.

Meenoo taught English in Philadelphia for ten years at the Science Leadership Academy and in other public schools in the city.
She has been a teacher-consultant for the Philadelphia Writing Project and an educational consultant with The Educator Collaborative. She is also an instructor in Arcadia University s Connected Learning Certificate Program.
In July she began a two-year assignment as a teaching fellow with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she is working to help teachers refine their practice through collaboration.

Penny Kittle is an English teacher, literacy coach, and director of new teacher mentoring at Kennett High School in North Conway, New Hampshire. She teaches 10th, 11th, and 12th graders each fall.
As an educator and an author, Penny has received many awards in her career. In 2009, she received the James N. Britton award from the National Council of Teachers of English for Write Beside Them. And, in 2015, she was recognized with the Exemplary Leader Award from the Conference on English Leadership.
Penny is the author of Book Love: Developing Depth, Stamina, and Passion in Adolescent Readers, Write Beside Them: risk, voice, and clarity in high school writing, Inside Writing: how to teach the details of craft & My Quick Writes (co-authored with her mentor and friend, Donald H. Graves), The Greatest Catch: a life in teaching, and Public Teaching: one kid at a time. She recently co-edited (with Tom Newkirk) a collection of Don Graves work, Children Want to Write: Don Graves and the Revolution in Children’s Writing.
In this conversation, host Kevin Carlson talks with Penny about mentors, the most powerful teaching practice she knows, and what she thinks will probably be her most lasting contribution to education.

Kathy Collins writes and consults on literacy instruction in the elementary school grades. She presents at conferences, teaches at reading institutes, and works in schools and districts all over the world.
She has worked extensively with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University, and she taught first grade in Brooklyn, New York.
She is the author of Growing Readers and Reading for Real, both published by Stenhouse, and most recently, in 2015, she co-authored a book with Matt Glover, published by Heinemann, called I Am Reading: Nurturing Young Children s Meaning Making and Joyful Engagement with Any Book.
