In this episode Nya Hardaway and Avery Jones discuss their projects on both the misrepresentation and constructive role of "black rage." This concept has been explored in depth in black psychology, law, political commentaries, music and elsewhere. Yet, as Hardaway and Jones note, the moral legitimacy and social benefits of black rage continue to be misunderstood and denied in twenty-first century political culture, especially in the case of the "angry black woman" stereotype. They counter these misrepresentations of black anger by embracing its contributions.
Black Memory Work is a podcast supplementing the senior seminar and capstone in African and African American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. The podcast was created to support the seminar as we became displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic, by providing a creative, asynchronous, and virtual space to develop and share ideas.
