Pianist, Organist, Actor, Poet and Theater Producer Freddie Roach left us far too early in 1980.  He was described as a multifaceted artist who was capable of remarkable work in any of his chosen disciplines.  He recorded several albums on the Blue Note label which exemplify his genius within the jazz organ genre and his uniqueness in style and its departure from the 'Jimmy Smith' model that was omnipresent.  From his home in Newark, New Jersey (equipped with its own theater stage), Freddie attracted the upper echelon of current jazz artists (Joe Henderson, Hank Mobley, Eddie Gladden, etc) to join him in his creative efforts.  In this episode of my Doodlin' Lounge, we hear from fellow musicians who knew and worked with Freddie (Connie Lester, Vinnie Corrao, Kenny Burrell, Clarence Johnston, etc.).  Many of these voices are now silenced but the lasting effects of their words serve to shine light on the life of an artist who few people have written about.  I hope you enjoy this short but sweet trip into the life of an unsung hero of mine (and yours as well):  Freddie Roach
