In episode 61 of eCommerce Uncensored Jason and Kevin discuss the recent changes to the Facebook algorithm and why, as long as you’re doing things right, there is no reason for you to panic about it.

Facebook has announced that they will be switching things up in order to increase how many friends posts you see and decrease the number of business posts. A few years ago when Facebook changed the algorithm so that only 3% of the audience would atually see your posts-no one seemed to freak out as much. This time around, maybe because the news came as an ‘official’ announcement, there seems to be widespread concern.

So, should you really be worried? NO! As mentioned countless times in the podcast, your email list is your greatest asset. It is something you own and control. So if you are doing things right and using Facebook as a means to capture email addresses, then this change to the algorithm isn’t going to matter to you.

You should not be putting yourself in a position where you are relying on someone else’s platform. You don’t want to be building Facebook’s equity, but building your own brand, and Facebook should be used as a tool for this. You should be using Facebook as a way to pump out content and engage with your audience. The end game should be to get a lead, capture an email, or drive traffic back to your site-that way you are in control. If you have content that the audience really wants and engages with, Facebook’s algorithm isn’t going to affect its organic growth.

Bottom line is, it is all ever changing. Build your own equity with an email list so that you are not overly invested in something that you don’t actually control.
