State Rep. Stan McClain of Marion County discussed the final week of the Florida Legislative Session. The latest redistricting proposals show added County influence in Tallahassee. Population growth increases Marion County’s representation in the State House to 5.

Florida’s budget needs to be finalized by Tuesday to end the Legislative Session on time this Friday.

A high number of bills are still being considered in the final 2 weeks of the Session. One of the most highly publicized measures deals with election integrity, and McClain says a bill pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis should proceed to a vote this week.

Constitutional Carry has not moved successfully through the House yet, mostly because of the large number of higher priority bills this Session.

Surging gas prices have led to worry over stalling tourism. McClain said the legislature and governor have considered temporarily lowering or eliminating the state’s gas tax, but no measures have gained traction.
