Dallas–based drummer and multi–instrumentalist Jeff Ryan – his credits include work with St. Vincent, The War on Drugs, Daniel Johnston, Sarah Jaffe, The New Year and many more – presents “Two Pieces” (available Dec. 11th), his latest release under the Myopic banner.

The new recordings, each named for the settings in which they were made, were recorded in one take by engineer Jerome Brock, with minimal instrumentation and no overdubs, and mixed by Grammy award–winning producer, Stuart Sikes.

“The idea was to capture a moment and not spend any time in post-production,” Ryan says of the concept. “Whatever happened in the moment, happened.”

The first track, “Playground,” was recorded in the school playground of Ryan’s children.

“There is a set of vibes that are built right into the playground,” Ryan explains. “I had Scott Danbom from Centro–Matic, and a few other players along to accompany me. You can hear planes flying overhead, a bit of the wind, and the instruments resonating naturally outside.”

A music video for “Playground,” capturing the same take of the song that appears on “Two Pieces,” was shot and edited by John Dufhilo and will be released soon.

“Two Pieces” by Myopic will be released on Dec. 11th via UPClose Recording Co.

Jeff Ryan, a self–taught musician, started playing drums at an early age, continued in bands throughout high school and college, and started to get critical recognition when his group Pleasant Grove began touring in the US and Europe.

It was around this time that Ryan’s friends, the Grammy–winning engineers, John Congleton and Stuart Sikes, hired Ryan to play and record with St. Vincent, The War On Drugs, and many others.

It was also at this time that Ryan started tinkering with looping the sound of found objects, and developing these samples into songs. The result was 2009’s "Plays In Pieces" which was followed by 2013’s "We Were Here".
