The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has confirmed a small fire in a bin in a toilet has forced the evacuation of passengers in Terminal 1 and on planes to the tarmac.

The fire has been extinguished but Virgin passengers now face delays to the flights while the airline's arrivals terminal is ventilated.
