The South Australian Government has announced it will now allow shops to open as early as 9am on Sundays and all shops will also be allowed to trade on Boxing Day.

Aaron Morey Chief Economist at Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that this significant development in SA could put pressure on the West Australian Government to follow.

"This is an old argument but it's an argument for the times. Cities around the world are having to re-invent themselves and find ways to generate vibrancy and foot traffic - and Perth is no different," Mr Morey told Oly.

"It has benefits for everyone. For workers it creates more work, for small businesses it generates that foot traffic and for shoppers more convenience."

"These laws Oly have their roots in the 1677 England Sunday Observance Act and society has moved on from this."
