As of today the price of a pint at your local pub is expected to rise. Australia has the fourth-highest tax on beer in the world which is why the Australian Hotels Association, Clubs Australia and the Brewers Association have launched a national campaign to cut the tax hike and to support the already suffering hospital industry.

"Pub and club owners, they've had 2 terrible years, a billion dollars in lost beer sales in 2020, another billion dollars last year and then many people hoped this would be the period that they would recover and instead Omicron has meant their sales are down on last year. It's really hitting them hard, they're struggling with staff, they're struggling with increased costs and now a tax increase and this is the largest tax increase in 10 years."

"We want the Government to cut quite significantly the draught beer tax. We want that reduced by 50% and that would really make a difference for pub owners and operators." CEO Brewers Association, John Preston told Perth Live.
