There has been a steady upward trend in the space of diagnosing kids (and adults) with disabilities and psychiatric issues that can be easily "fixed" through medication. "The easy button has consequences."
Electronic devices have crept into our lives and have disrupted how children learn and interact with their environment. Jasmine gets fairly passionate about the effects of screen time and provides some options for how a parent might start limiting and replacing that time with other beneficial activities.
Although kids may not have any where near the level of responsibility that we adults have, they have their own decisions and conundrums. In this episode, I talk about and give examples for my top 5 go to strategies to help decrease anxiety when teaching my kids.
Conflict is inevitable when there is a communication breakdown. Once blurred lines are made clear, it doesn't matter who won. When disagreements arises, are you able to keep your cool or does someone else wear the pants?
Effective, explicit communication with children is crucial to their mental and emotional development. When we provide our children with appropriate phrases that will increase the likelihood of them getting what they want, we are helping them build their self-confidence and independence. Communication skills are constantly evolving and warranting improvements. Be open to change, to giving your child a voice, and most of all to growth!
If you would have told me that I would be a #SpecialEducationTeacher when I was 10, I probably would have laughed you out of the building. Fast forward to high school and it's all I can think about.
