In this video I talk about the holiday formerly known as Columbus Day and why do we celebrate the ONE guy we KNOW did NOT discover America? And, if HE didn't, who DID!? I explore many of the men, myths, and legends behind who settled this land before anyone else - I mean, of course, besides this land's diverse and rich culture of indigenous peoples who were slaughtered and eliminated for the sake of resource and reward reaping. We can't forget good ol' Caucasian Colonialism!
This episode explores everything from ancient Israelites of the Latter Day Saints to the Saint who sailed in a bongo drum, featuring a Holy layover, actual giants, Vikings, and the explorers who charted the maps that marked the globe, it's a look at the incredible tall tales of conquest we DIDN'T learn about in school!
In the back half of the episode, I break down some of our other holidays and the history of St. Patrick's Day asking why do we celebrate the guy who wasn't even a real saint!? How we've been Mandela Effeted into believing that he's pied pipered the snakes out of Ireland - and what that REALLY could mean!
President's Day, asking can we REALLY celebrate ANYONE who owned slaves? How do we take A single day to celebrate the likes of Nixon and Washington? Trump and Obama? Harding with FDR? Seems problematic, at best.
So, what does this say about US? When WE choose idol worship - statues, holidays, and the level of social and cultural worship of these idols - aren't we forsaking two of the foundation "Judeo-Christian" values of "Thou Shalt Have No Gods Before Me", and the whole thing about graven images? What cultism are we opening ourselves up to when we allow ourselves, individually or as a collective, to just bypass our better judgement, compromise what we say our values are, to celebrate flawed men rather than celebrate the ideals behind these individuals and their holidays.
That's why I call this "Overthinking Everything".

Exploring our opinions and ideas through these lenses may seem daunting, but it's not as difficult to understand, once we unplug, detach, and step back from the issue. But it's a journey of discovery we'll go on together, Overthinking Everything!
