Episode 4 Mastering the Mindset of The Side Hustle
Hi! Thanks for joining us Episode 4 of the Fix Your Crown podcast. On this episode, we're talking about Mastering the Mindset of the Side Hustle. Our focus scripture is Acts 18:1-4. This passage talks about Paul making tents, in order to support himself and to support his ministry.
So, I wanted to talk about this because I know that many of you guys listening either want to start your own business, or may have already started your business. BUT, I do not believe that just because you want to start a business you need to just up and quit your job. So many people do this without effectively testing the profitability of their idea, without building a framework, without planing properly. So today episode is all around developing the right mindset so that you can have a successful side hustle. And that’s whether your going to have a side hustle forever, or for a few years, or even just a few months. Remember, success is 80% minute and 20% strategy.
So, The first area of your mindset you need to address is how you view your full-time job. You cannot view your full time job negatively. Even if you aren’t in the position that you want to be, making the money that you want to make, or you’re just simply unhappy with the job, you have to keep in mind that there is something for you to learn from this position.
Paul is a great example for us of how we can allow every area of our lives be an example to those around us.
The second area I want to focus on is your motivations. Paul’s motivation for maintaining his income source while ministering full time was so that he could also contribute to the Christian community. So, a question that you have to ask yourself is what is your motivation for starting and running your business.
All successful entrepreneurs, whether full time or part time, have learned to discipline themselves. Entrepreneurs, especially side entrepreneurs, often see their businesses suffer because they don’t have anyone holding them accountable. If you’re the only person working in your business and you haven’t found the right accountability partner yet for your business, it can be difficult to hold yourself accountable to your goals- and keep doing the things you know you need to do.
Paul knew how to discipline himself and he knew that even if he was unhappy or uncomfortable, the most important thing was achieving his goals. Paul says in one of his letters that he knew how to be abased and abound, He knew that whatever state he was in he knew how to be content.
If you are going to successful master the art of the side hustle you have to develop a mindset that is committed to strategy. I Success does not just happen. Creating a success strategy is extremely important, but actually committing to sticking to that strategy is a completely different thing. Your mindset has to be strategy focused. What is the plan and are you committed?
Even if you are side entrepreneur, the way that you see this business will determine how successful it is. Do you only do it when you feel like it? Do you have a schedule that is designates particular time to work on your business or do you treat it like a hobby? If you are only treating your side hustle like a side hustle you cannot ever expect to see full time results from it. This is the number one reason why i don’t suggest that people leave their jobs before they’ve spent a significant amount of time working in the business, because, honestly, a lot of people aren’t even interested, or passionate about the business they’ve chosen to start.
So remember, success is 80% mindset and 20% strategy. You can be successful. The bible says be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
