An accountability partner is someone who will hold you accountable and help you fast track your success. You are most like the 5 people you spend the most time with, so you need to make sure that your accountability partner is the right person to help you take your goals to the next level.
The wrong accountability partner could possibly cause you delay, or become stagnant in accomplishing your goals
So on today’s episode of the Fix Your Crown podcast we’re going to talk about why you need an accountability partner and how having one helps your business, how to choose the right accountability partner, and what to do once you finally get one.— as in how do you actually hold each other accountable.
An accountability partner provides you with a sounding board for your ideas. So many of us suffer from lack of support from our friends and family, and ultimately that can lead to the death of a business. Faith comes by hearing, so whatever you hear constantly, you will ultimately begin to believe. This is why it is so important to elevate your circle of influence.
I know you’ve heard it said before that two heads are better than one and that is 100% true. by connecting with someone who is similar to you but thinks differently than you will see an increase in the speed at which you achieve because everything doesn’t always start from scratch. An accountability partner puts you slightly ahead by giving you another brain to work with.
This one only works for people like me who are competitive in nature. But every single time in my life that I’ve had an accountability partner or someone that I was going to compare goals or work with, I never wanted to be the one who didn’t have anything to show for it. Now, don’t go nuts, but a little friendly competition is ok, just remember this person is your friend and also you guys are helping each other. But if the idea of showing up to your meeting without anything to show for the last two weeks makes you absolutely sick to your stomach like me then the added competition of an accountability partner will do your goals some good.
Choosing an Accountability Partner
So the number one thing I find that most people don’t really think about when selecting their accountability partner is whether or not this person is someone you actually want to make yourself accountable to. If you are not willing to “answer” to them about your shortcomings and failures then this isn’t someone that you really need to have as your accountability partner. Basically, what I’m saying is you need to choose someone that you can really be transparent and vulnerable with because it is only through true transparency can you uncover your real issues for not getting something done.
You both also need to have the ability to actually meet. If the two of you don’t have time for each other, then you can’t really hold each other accountable can you.
You need to pick someone that you have more in common with than your hobbies. An accountability partner should have similar goals, wants, desires, and also be at a similar stage in life and business development as you.
Finally, your accountability partner needs to be someone who is comfortable holding your accountable. So if you have a little cousin who adores you and would never consider making you mad, then she’s not the right person. My accountability partner makes me angry all the time because she challenges me to be better.
So now that you have an accountability partner, what exactly are you guys supposed to do? I want to lay out an easy 4 step plan for building and maintaining your accountability relationship.
